2020 Domaine Vincent Pinard

‘A mass of concentration packed into an airy, cloud of wine.’

Rebecca Gibb MW

Vinous

We are delighted to release the new 2020 single vineyard wines from Domaine Vincent Pinard, one of the finest producers in Sancerre.

Low yields, hand harvesting and expert winemaking create enticingly aromatic and intensely refreshing wines, way ahead of other Sauvignons at this price. Brothers Clement and Florent Pinard work the vineyards by hand following organic methods. They own some of the best plots in Sancerre including the Petit and Grand Chemarin vineyards and Le Chêne Marchand, all of which lie on caillottes soils that give the wines their distinct minerality.

All four of the whites we are offering today express a uniqueness which is typical of their vineyards. An early harvest, 2020 is an excellent vintage. Sauvignon Blancs that were picked at the right time show great precision and intensity. We think these 2020s are incredible.

We only have a few cases so please contact us as soon as possible for an allocation. Stock is available for immediate delivery.

Sancerre Petit Chemarin Vincent Pinard 2020  |  93 points
£185 per 6 bottle case in bond
‘The 2020 Sancerre Petit Chemarin vineyard is incredibly chalky, and that comes through in the wine’s texture, almost as if you’ve dissolved a soluble aspirin. Fresh but ripe, red apples meet a light autolysis-derived pastry note in this tender, pure and elegant Sancerre. The chalky veil combines with the fine acidity, producing a lightly structured and clean conclusion.’ Rebecca Gibb MW, Vinous, July 2022

Sancerre Le Chateau, Pinard 2020  |  94 points
£190 per 6 bottle case in bond
‘From a small parcel planted on kimmeridgian soils in 1968, the 2020 Sancerre Le Chateau is a powerful and structured Sancerre with plentiful, welcome flesh. You can expect a high level of concentration reflecting the restricted yields, and the flavors are reminiscent of ripe apples, nectarines, floral notes and a pastry-like character on the finish. If I’m being super picky, I’d like a little more tension through the wine’s core, but this was a warm season, and it is still an excellent wine.’ Rebecca Gibb MW, Vinous, July 2022

Sancerre Chêne Marchand, Pinard 2020  |  94 points
£190 per 6 bottle case in bond
‘The 2020 Sancerre Chêne Marchand is initially a tender wine with a mass of concentration packed into an airy, cloud of wine. The wine is held together by a line of acidity and mineral structure providing length and focus. The nettle-suffused finish is slightly spoiled by a note of alcohol that warms on the finish (14%), but that is really picking faults.‘ Rebecca Gibb MW, Vinous, July 2022

Sancerre Grand Chemarin, Pinard 2020  |  95 points
£195 per 6 bottle case in bond
‘While light on its feet, the 2020 Sancerre Grand Chemarin packs plenty of concentration within its core. This sense of power provides a quinine-like bitterness to the ripe fruit and nettle flavors, which serve to remind you we are in Sauvignon-Central. There’s a long, dry and savory finish with a lees-derived pastry character lingering long.’ Rebecca Gibb MW, Vinous, July 2022
