Bancroft

The story of Domaine Mas Amiel begins in 1816 when the Bishop of Perpignan lost the property to Raymond Amiel over a game of cards. Now owned by Olivier Decelle, who has done much to raise its profile, Mas Amiel is recognised as a pioneer in the region. 
 
Mainly planted to Grenache, the estate is located in the Agly Valley near Perpignan just outside the village of Maury. Approximately half the production goes into dry wines but the estate is better known for its Maury which is aged outdoors in large glass demi-johns before maturation in large oak barrels.
 
‘One of the attractions of Mas Amiel is its extensive library of older Maury vintages’ says Joe Czerwinski. The superb Maury 40 Ans, which we are offering here, contains ‘only material that is at least 40 years old’ explains Czerwinski. We are also offering a few rare bottles of the Millésime 1969 which is drinking beautifully. Silky textured and moreish, with layers of complex dried fruits, both have 95 points in the Wine Advocate.
