Today I am delighted to offer you the release of the iconic Brokenwood Graveyard Vineyard Shiraz from the exceptional 2019 vintage.
 
Established in 1970, Brokenwood Wines has evolved from a weekend venture for self-professed hobby winemakers into one of Australia’s most highly regarded wine estates. The Graveyard Vineyard  Shiraz is the jewel in their crown.
 
Originally planted with Shiraz and Cabernet, the heavy clay soils resulted in vintages of low yield with extraordinary balance and concentration. Today this 15-hectare vineyard is planted with Shiraz only separated into a number of blocks named in good Brokenwood fun; Pa’s, 7 Acre, Bush, Duck’s, Road, Middle , End, Kat’s and Dog’s, State of Origin, Vegas and Trees

Since its inception in 1983, Graveyard Vineyard Shiraz has come from the best vintages with the aim of always producing one of Australia’s finest wines. The 2019, offered today, is from an outstanding year in the Hunter Valley, standing comfortably alongside previous multi award-winning vintages such as 2014, 2017 and 2018.
 
A bright mid density colour with purple hues just adds to the appeal. The palate is very supple and complete and has a lovely flow from start to finish.  The use of large French oak barrels allows the red spice and bramble fruit of this Hunter Shiraz to shine. Fresh acidity underpins the structure and carry of the wine. Overall, this is a very impressive wine and a great follow on from the 2018 vintage – subtle but powerful.
 
As you can see from the glowing 99-point review below, Brokenwood’s Graveyard Shiraz is held in extremely high regard. The 2019 is without a doubt worthy of serious consideration, for medium to long term cellaring.
