Sustainability

Our goal is to embed sustainable principles at every level of our
decision-making process, ensuring we minimise our impact on the
environment and help foster a sustainable future for all. To this end, a carbon footprint report has been conducted by
CarbonQuota, we have asked our team to complete a sustainability
survey, we have carried out a questionnaire amongst our producers
to gather data about their approach to sustainability.

We have identified the following areas of our business to focus on:
producers, shipping and logistics, our workspace, the Bancroft team.

Sustainable Sourcing

Bancroft prioritises working with environmentally responsible wine producers. They collect detailed information from suppliers on sustainability certifications (e.g., organic, biodynamic), vineyard and winery practices, community impact, packaging, recycling, and carbon reduction efforts. Currently, 32% of core producers are certified organic or biodynamic. Ongoing efforts focus on encouraging sustainable practices across the supply chain.

Sustainable Logistics

Bancroft partners with logistics providers who have clear sustainability commitments. This includes support for innovations like wind-powered vessels and electric delivery vehicles. Operational efficiencies include full container shipping, switching freight from road to rail/sea, and using a wind-powered warehouse with energy-saving technologies such as motion-sensor lighting and modern insulation.

Internal Culture

The company promotes sustainability within its team through hybrid working (to reduce commuting emissions), the Cycle to Work Scheme, and encouraging public transport use. Employees are actively engaged in reducing office energy use. Their office is powered by 100% renewable electricity via REGO-certified tariffs provided by Workspace.

Broader Environmental Commitment

Owner Peter De Haan is a long-standing environmental advocate and philanthropist. Through his charitable trust, he has awarded £6m to environmental causes, with a further £3m pledged. Projects include winery-based ecological programmes in Spain and support for UK peatland restoration through the IUCN UK Peatland Programme.
