Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia is the second wine of Ornellaia. Crafted with the same passion and focus as Ornellaia, Le Serre Nuove is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot from vineyards which lead down to the Mediterranean coast. The 2020 is packed full of generous dark red fruit supported by velvety tannins.
2020 was a warm year, with especially hot and dry conditions in July and August. As Monica Larner explains, this gives the wine a sweetness and plumpness which makes it so appealing: ‘The fullness of the fruit is on full display, but in a very relaxed and natural manner. The wine never feels like too much.’ As in previous vintages, the grapes were hand-picked and sorted on a double sorting table. Each variety and each parcel were vinified separately. Maturation in barriques for 15 months was followed by another six months in bottle prior to release.

‘The 2020 Bolgheri Rosso Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia (a proprietary blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot) is a generous and darkly toned red blend that has the extra fruit fiber, sweetness and generous plumpness of a warm vintage. The fullness of the fruit is on full display, but in a very relaxed and natural manner. The wine never feels like too much.
