We are delighted to offer you the new 2019 vintage of Opus One.
Opus One was founded by Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Château Mouton. By combining the great winemaking traditions of both families, their aim was to create an exceptional Bordeaux style wine in the heart of the Napa Valley. The 2019 is another brilliant achievement, ‘a truly magnificent Opus One in the making’ says Monica Larner who scores it 97-99 points.
Abundant spring rainfall at the start of the vintage provided ample water for the growing season. The first signs of budbreak were observed on March 27th, 15 days later than usual. However, warmer temperatures towards the end of summer accelerated vine development and grape maturity. Harvest began on September 10th, a few days earlier than average, and lasted four weeks.
A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon 78%, Merlot 8%, Petit Verdot 6%, Cabernet Franc 6% and Malbec 2%, with 19 months ageing in new French oak, the 2019 has intense aromas of black plum, blueberry, black currant and dried rose petals, accentuated by elegant mineral undertones. The creamy, satiny texture is framed by fine grained tannins. The freshness and soft glow of acidity creates a subtle tension with dark fruit flavours and savoury and cocoa notes. A delicate dark chocolate bitterness lingers on the finish. ‘Tasted next to the 2018, the 2019 possesses a bit more textural nuance and body’ according to Galloni, ‘yet it has all the classicism that is such an Opus One signature.’

‘The purity of fruit is really something else here, with currants and fresh flowers, such as violets and roses. Flower stems as well.
