2022 Bancroft Portfolio: Six Top Recommends From Jancis Robinson

We were excited last month to hold one of our biggest and most ambitious portfolio tastings in our entire 25+ year history. The event, for press and trade, was held at the Royal Institute of British Architects in London.

Over the past two years we’ve added over 60 new producers to our range from all 4 corners of the wine world. For many of my colleagues, this was the first time we’ve been able to meet our new growers face to face. More importantly, it was an opportunity for our customers to sample our new and exciting portfolio.

With 93 producers in attendance and over 400 different wines, there was a lot to taste and enjoy. Fortunately, the world-renowned wine critic Jancis Robinson was in attendance and has published notes on 52 wines. We’ve selected some of the highlights for your consideration:

We’re offering these wines at a special 15% case discount until 22nd July with free delivery on 12 or more bottles – mixed cases are possible.

To place an order, or discuss the wines in more detail, please contact us as soon as possible. Wines offered subject to availability – we look forward to hearing from you.

Purchase In Bond (ex duty & VAT)

2017 Rioja Blanco, Finca Allende
£290.40 per 12 bottle case on offer inc taxes (£24.20 per bottle)
‘Current vintage! So creamy and interesting! A superb, complex wine for the money. Wax, and citrus and real tingle on the finish. No hurry to drink this. VGV – 13.5% – Drink 2022–2027’ 17.5 points, Jancis Robinson

2018 Section 94 Sauvignon Blanc, Dog Point Vineyard
£132.30 per 6 bottle case on offer inc taxes  (£22.05 per bottle)
‘Organic. All spontaneous fermentation… …and quite marked struck-match here – perhaps that’s why they released it after the 2019? Just the same structure as a fine white burgundy; it could make for some surprising and interesting comparisons blind? Very long. A thoroughly satisfying drink – Drink 2021–2026’ 17.5 points, Jancis Robinson

2020 Sylvaner Vieilles Vignes, André Ostertag

£244.80 per 12 bottle case on offer inc taxes (£20.40 per bottle)
‘Biodynamic. Very, very rich for a Sylvaner and a welcome change from more famous varietals. Could very well withstand comparison with Franken’s finest. Not sweet but intense with a dry finish. And very long. GV – 13% – Drink 2022- 2026’ 17 points, Jancis Robinson

2019 Spätburgunder Toreye Trocken, Weingut Eymann
£132.60 per 6 bottle case on offer inc taxes (£22.10 per bottle)
‘Biodynamic. Mid garnet. Good texture and dry interest on the end after some ferny flavours. Very fresh. Real life here! Serious wine. 13% – Drink 2022–2027’ 16.5+ points, Jancis Robinson

2014 Rioja Tinto, Finca Allende
£290.40 per 12 bottle case on offer inc taxes (£24.20 per bottle)
‘Bright, healthy, dense garnet. Correct, juicy but dense red rioja which already has lots of age on it so is GV. Very lively and alive. Truly artisan wine. 13.5% – Drink 2021–2028’ 16.5 points, Jancis Robinson

2020 Cascina Sciulun Langhe Nebbiolo, Franco Conterno
£129.90 per 6 bottle case on offer inc taxes (£21.65 per bottle)

‘Pale ruby. Good dusty/chewy character. Fresh fruity start and bone-dry, demanding finish. A good-value introduction to Langhe Nebbiolo? GV – 13.5% – Drink 2022–2026’  16.5 points, Jancis Robinson
