2015 ILR Reserve Semillon, Brokenwood

'Such a beautifully polished and gently developed Semillon'

James Suckling

Today we are delighted to offer you the wonderful new 2015 vintage of ILR Reserve Semillon from Brokenwood.

ILR Reserve Semillon is named after former Chief Winemaker and Managing Director Iain Leslie Riggs, the driving force behind these internationally acclaimed Hunter Valley whites.

Only produced in the best vintages, the 2015 is sourced from the Trevena Vineyard, an important heritage site with vines dating back to 1926. Harvested by hand and matured without oak to preserve as much freshness as possible, this is a brilliant example of a classic style.

Hunter Valley Semillons have a unique ability to age. ILR Reserve Semillon is traditionally released after six years, just as the colour is showing some development and the fruit is starting to express itself.

ILR Reserve Semillon has a huge following worldwide and with great scores from both James Halliday (94/100) and James Suckling (96/100) there has been a lot of excitement surrounding the new 2015 vintage.

The delightful 2015 is ready for immediate delivery, so please let us know if you’d like to secure a case or two of this true Hunter Valley beauty.

‘Such a beautifully polished and gently developed semillon with aromas of fresh lemon and lemon butter, as well as yellow grapefruit. So pure. The palate has a glazed sheen that has built up in the bottle now, and there’s fleshy lemon flavor with a discreet push of acidity below. Good ripeness and poise. Drink or hold’ 96 points, James Suckling

‘Museum release from a cooler year that has produced some surprisingly good wines, like this one. Precocious Hunter semillon aromas of lemon candy, talc, buttered toast and lime marmalade. It is an idiosyncrasy of the region that such lightweight, balletic expressions can metastasise into a mouthfeel of creamy breadth and aromas that feign the toastiness of oak with age. Not yet fully mature. The finish, scented with greengage and lemongrass’ 94 points, James Halliday
