The story of Promontory dates back to the 1980s. Bill Harlan was hiking in the mountains along Oakville’s southwestern ridge to the south of Harlan Estate when he stumbled across a prohibition-era bootlegger’s cabin alongside an abandoned vineyard. Bill immediately recognised the potential of this rugged slope but wasn’t able to buy the land until 2008. The first vintage, the 2009, was released in 2013 to immediate international acclaim, garnering a series of impressive scores.
With an outstanding 100 points from Antonio Galloni and 99 points from Lisa Perrotti-Brown the 2014 sets the bar for top Napa Cabernet. Lisa Perrotti-Brown describes the 2014 as ‘super intense’ and ‘wonderfully ethereal’. For Galloni, this is an ‘extraordinary’ vintage with the 2015 and 2016 not far behind, a ‘towering achievement from one of Napa Valley’s most talented young winemakers.’
At £595 per bottle, the 2014 is cheaper than the recently released 2016 which received a similar score. We have an allocation of just 18 bottles of the 2014 presented in individual wooden cases.

‘Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2014 Promontory bursts from the glass with bold, brazen notions of crushed blackcurrants, black raspberries, wild blueberries and redcurrant jelly with a compelling perfume of rose hip tea, sandalwood, unsmoked cigars and dried lavender.
