Today it gives us great pleasure to offer The Eye of Ra Shiraz 2016 from Australian powerhouse Ben Glaetzer, the very first vintage of this iconic Barossa red to be released.
Ben Glaetzer’s The Eye of Ra Shiraz is a wine of incredible depth and power balanced by extraordinary elegance and restraint. These qualities are represented by The Eye of Ra in Egyptian mythology, the powerful and feminine counterpart to the sun god Ra.
A truly exceptional year, The Eye of Ra 2016 was sourced from selected vineyards in the famous Ebenezer sub district of the Barossa Valley. ‘I realised that fruit from selected individual vines across a small number of chosen vineyards had the outstanding combination of characters to create a wine to be the epitome of Barossa Shiraz’ says Ben Glaetzer.
Made with the upmost care and attention to detail, the fruit was hand harvested from low yielding vines, up to 110 years old, grown on deep sandy soils. In the cellar, each parcel was fermented separately in small open fermenters and gently hand plunged three times per day. Cool temperatures were maintained throughout fermentation to preserve the unique character of each parcel and to enhance the aromatic complexity and freshness of the wine. Maturation took place over 16 months in 100% new French oak hogsheads of the highest quality.
Offering a bouquet of radiant intensity, the wonderfully balanced and effortlessly classy 2016 is amongst the finest wines in the world. Released in the very best vintages and available in extremely limited quantities, this is a rare collector’s item. Each 750ml bottle comes in a special wooden case. On the back label, a unique code in invisible UV ink guarantees provenance.
