Welcoming Flint Vineyard to the Portfolio

It all began with co-founder and Head Winemaker Ben Witchell, and his sense of curiosity; specifically in really good wine, and how to make it. It was to become an all-consuming passion, which led to him closing the book on an IT career to dive into the unknown. A top degree in Oenology and Viticulture was the foundation, deepening Ben’s fascination in the science behind it all. But it was two years of winemaking in Beaujolais, France, that really shaped his approach – where he refined his philosophy of blending precision with creativity.

Returning to England, Ben set out to find the ideal spot to bring this ethos to English wine. South Norfolk stood out, and a speculative email to local landowner and entrepreneur Adrian Hipwell turned into something much bigger. Their partnership led to the birth of Flint Vineyard – a place where innovation, skill, instinct and creativity combine to create something truly special.

With 35,000+ vines, a cutting-edge winery, and a reputation for making some of the UK’s most exciting wines, Flint is firmly on the map. Their home in rural South Norfolk plays a big role in this – it couldn’t happen just anywhere. One of the driest and sunniest spots in the UK, as well as beautiful, provides perfect conditions to grow expressive, vibrant fruit. A major new winery expansion is underway, designed to push winemaking even further while embracing sustainability. More vineyard plantings will allow Ben and his team to keep experimenting and refining our signature styles. And, as always, continue to challenge expectations of what English wine can be.
