Wines of Austria

On the 25th February discover more than 100 Austrian wineries at London’s Science Museum. We are pleased to share that Michael Opitz, of his namesake estate, winemaker Thomas Ganser of Weingut Weszeli, August Knoll of Weingut Knoll fame and Andreas Wickhoff MW of Weingut Bründlmayer will be present at this tasting and pouring from their range.

Michael Opitz is deeply committed to sustainability and quality, which inspired him to transform his small family winery into an organic, natural operation at every level. The Neusiedlersee, or Seewinkel, a saltwater lake, brings refreshing breezes that help protect against disease in this warm, flat region of Austria. Michael embraces the unconventional, forging unique relationships with rare but beautifully balanced, harmonious blends. The wines are a true reflection of their environment—pure, fresh, aromatic, and with a distinct salty character.

A founding member of the Österreichische Traditionsweingüter Weingut Bründlmayer is a leading producer in Austria’s Kamptal region. Managed by the Bründlmayer family, Thomas Klinger, and Master of Wine Andreas Wickhoff, careful harvesting and precise selection of grapes with minimal handling in the winery results in pure, restrained and mineral-driven winesw. The focus is on Grüner Veltliner and Riesling from some of the Kamptal’s finest vineyards, and the estate also crafts exceptional Sekt and Pinot Noir.

Weingut Knoll is a family-owned winery nestled in the stunning Wachau region, where its steep vineyards gracefully descend to the Danube River. Crafted by third-generation winemaker Emmerich Knoll and his wife Anja, the wines are a true expression of their sustainable farming practices. Each wine is carefully fermented in a blend of traditional large oak vats and acacia, creating wines that reflect the unique terroir of the region with depth and character.

A former city professional, Davis Weszeli left the corporate world in search of a deeper connection with nature. He found his true passion in 2011 when he took over a winery in Kamptal. Weingut Weszeli dedicates itself to crafting authentic wines while embracing sustainability and organic viticulture. Davis actively promotes wildlife and biodiversity in the vineyards, with a special affection for the native hoopoe bird, reflecting his commitment to a harmonious, eco-friendly approach to winemaking.
