Ataraxia Chardonnay 2018: Joint Best White Wine Trophy Winner

We are delighted to announce that Ataraxia Chardonnay 2018 has been awarded Joint Best White Wine Trophy Winner in Wine Merchant Magazine’s Top 100 awards – reaffirming what we have always thought about this brilliant South African Chardonnay from the beautiful Hemel-en-Aarde (‘heaven and earth’). Made by legendry wine maker Kevin Grant, Ataraxia produces one of the finest Chardonnays in South Africa, up there with the very best from around the world.

Ataraxia, Chardonnay 2018
£15.45 DPD / bottle

Kevin Grant is one of only a handful Chardonnay specialists in South Africa. Bright yellow straw in appearance. White flowers and vanilla cream on the nose, with neatly integrated toasty oak characters.  This Chardonnay has been known to top the charts in many a South African Chardonnay tasting, and rightly so with its chiselled, focused style. It manages to be both subtle and intense, with hints of sun-warmed tropical fruits, gentle peach and vanilla. The wine has a fresh palate on entry with subtle tropical notes.

Tacchino, Gavi di Gavi 2019
£8.95 DPD / bottle

A Gavi di Gavi should be clean and crisp with a mineral finish. This 2019 Gavi di Gavi from Azienda Tacchino goes a step further with its apple and peach aromas and notes of fresh almond and seashell on the palate.

Black Stallion, Cabernet Sauvignon 2016
£21.95 DPD / bottle

The signature profile of a slightly softer, approachable Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine opens with stunning aromas of blackberry, black cherry and toasty scents; the palate is concentrated with bold, velvety flavors of cassis, plum and blackberry. Intense, concentrated mature fruit, bold, but integrated tannins and beautifully balanced acidity extend to an elegant finish.

Glaetzer Wines, Anaperenna 2017
£24.45 DPD / bottle

Glaetzer Anaperenna is a seamless fusion of the two varieties Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. Voluptuous, opulent and yet refined, with a very long and satisfying finish. Lifted herbal aromas with notes of blackberry, plum fruits, anise and spice box.  Tightly wound palate; layered spice complements deep, dark fruit elements. Supple tannins contribute to palate length with well integrated, seamless acidity.  A wine that will mature extremely well with long term cellaring up to 20 years.
