Juliet Victor Joins The Bancroft Portfolio

Bancroft Wines and Tokaj winery Juliet Victor to team up for UK distribution of the winery’s single vineyard Furmints and sweet wines

Lenka Sedlackova MW, Senior Brand Manager of Bancroft Wines comments: “We are delighted to be expanding our Eastern-European wine portfolio with the addition of our first Hungarian winery, Juliet Victor. Tokaj is a world-class region making world-class wines and I feel that the wines of Juliet Victor offer a wonderful expression of Tokaj’s volcanic terroirs and its unique grape varieties. The tightly-woven, minerally intense style of these wines, their single vineyard focus and sweet wines that over-deliver on quality will greatly complement and enrich our portfolio. It is truly impressive what this new estate has managed to achieve in such a short space of time and we are excited to see what the future brings.”

Bálint Veér, Commercial Director of Juliet Victor comments: “We are very happy to be working with Bancroft as part of our efforts to establish our brand in the UK. From the very start of our partnership, we were thoroughly impressed by the level of professionalism and agility that the Bancroft team shows on a day-to-day basis. Bancroft stood out amongst UK importers not only in their deep understanding of regional specialities such as Tokaj but also in their ability to faithfully communicate these unique terroir qualities to their customers and partners to allow them to discover the world of Juliet Victor vintages.”

About Juliet Victor
Juliet Victor is a relatively new estate and was founded in 2016 by József Váradi. Located in the heart of Hungary’s Tokaj region, in the historic area of Mád, Juliet Victor has 25 hectares of some of the highest quality and most historically significant areas. Here, the estate uses the same handpicked Furmint grapes to produce dry wines as well as blends with Hárslevelű and Muskotály for their sweet Szamorodni and Aszú wines. The vines are on average 45-50 years old but the Bomboly vineyard includes some wines that are over 100 years old.

Juliet Victor produces linear, mineral-driven wines which emphasise the volcanic terroir and express the individual qualities of each of the vineyards (Betsek, Király, Szent Tamás, Úrágya, Bomboly, Holdvölgy and Veres). Unique terroir qualities are fully capitalized on in state-of-the-art facilities that are complemented by ageing in large Hungarian oak casks. These casks are only lightly toasted, the intention is to enhance rather than mask the fruit. The wines are carefully crafted by winemaker Zsolt Vincze, son-in-law of Hungary’s most influential winemaking figure, István Szepsi.
