Graci
ETNA, SICILY, ITALY
Alberto Graci returned to his native Sicily after a career in banking. in 2004. He bought vines on the north side of Etna, at altitudes of above 600m to over 1000m. The mixture of Mediterranean sun, altitude, cleansing winds and volcanic soils allows minimalist Alberto to produce wines of immense purity, levity and precision.
Nerello Mascalese is Alberto`s main focus, but he has whites from Carricante and Catarratto. Alberto`s easy going manner and non-interventionalist style masks a talent highly respected around the world. Even on Etna, seen as one of nature`s great vine sites, he stands up as a great.
Vinification and aging take place in concrete tanks and large 42 hectolitre Stockinger barrels produced with very long seasoned wood. All the work is aimed at favouring the personality of the vines and holding close to the belief in natural expression of the fruit.
