For more than three generations the Tacchino family has produced superb fresh and vibrant wines in Castelletto d'Orba in Monferrato, Piedmont. This is perfect wine country as the hills provide a natural amphitheatre which protects the vineyards from the northerly winds. Today brother and sister duo Alessio and Romina run the Tacchino estate, blending a respect for traditio with modern winemaking methods and a rigorous attention to detai to produce a range of wines of outstanding elegance and purity. Tacchino's vines are spread over 25 hectares, about half of which benefit from a south/southeasterly aspect. Great care is taken to restrict yields.

The Moscato d'Asti (5.5% abv) is light and very refreshing with lemon citrus flavours. A firm favourite all-round, the Gavi di Gavi DOCG is full of citrus fruit and tropical notes with crisp acidity and a lingering finish. As for the reds, the Barbera del Monferrato has deep, velvety red fruit flavours with spicy notes and the `Du Riva` Dolcetto d'Ovada Superiore DOCG, frequently awarded the coveted Tre Bicchieri Award from Gambero Rosso, is intense with rich damson fruit flavours; it is also, quite aptly, named after Romina and Alessio's inimitable grandfather. The `Albarola` Barbera del Monferrato DOCG is replete with concentrated fruit that is lifted and polished, plus a bright fresh acidity, while the `Di Fatto` Monferrato DOC Rosso pays homage to the `true` grapes of Piedmont in a blend of Barbera, Dolcetto, Cabernet Sauvignon and Barbarossa. A fantastic range and a true family endeavour.
