Domaine Joseph Roty
- France Burgundy
Domaine Joseph Roty has one of the largest cult followings of any small Burgundian grower and has produced some of the region's most exquisite wines for many years. Twelve generations on from 1710 the domaine is now run by Pierre-Jean, following the tragic passing of his brother Philippe. Philippe was a tremendous vigneron and had taken over the mantle of his celebrated father Joseph, instituting little changes that meant the domaine looked to the future with confidence; now it is up to Pierre- Jean to do the same, and he is doing so admirably. There are two labels in one at this address: Domaine Joseph Roty and Domaine Philippe Roty. Whilst the wineries are separate by law, the vinification, philosophy and vineyard maintenance are identical. Both labels offer outstanding wines, from the exceptional value found in the Bourgogne Pressonnier, a declassified Gevrey-Chambertin vineyard, to the perfectly made and hugely impressive Mazis and Charmes-Chambertin.
