Château du Cèdre

  • France South West
The Verhaeghe family have been making wine in the Lot since the 1950s. Today it is Pascal and Jean-Marc in charge of the domaine, which is certified organic. They own three parcels of vineyards, the largest of which is 12.5 acres with stony calcareous clay which is called `Tran`, which plays an important role retaining heat and moisture. Drawing on his winemaking experience from California to Burgundy, Pascal delicately creates wines of great elegance and roundness, from IGP to AOP status. Forming a pretty pair of IGP house pours are, Blandine Le Blanc, a blend of 60% Colombard with 40% Ugni-blanc and Marcel Malbec, a 100% Malbec with great typicity and drinkability.

The Cèdre Héritage is made up of 95% Malbec and 5% Merlot and displays cassis, violets and spice aromas and is mellow and seamless on the palate. The Cahors is 90% Malbec, 5% Tannat and 5% Merlot producing a fine and aromatic wine with spiced black fruit aromas. Premium cuvee Le Cèdre is 100% Malbec and sees some age in new oak. It has a delicate, smoky, damson nose and a thick, concentrated mid-palate.

Their 100% sulpher-free cuvee Extra-Libre is one of the stars in their line-up. an incredibly pure and bright example of Malbec, absolutely clean and a joy to drink. Finally, the Malbec Vintage Vin de Liqueur has aromas of deep black plums scented with a hint of lavender and violets on the nose that leads to a luscious sweet and spicy palate, surprisingly clean and fresh with a dark chocolate finish.
