Telmo Rodriguez is one of the most well-known personalities in Spanish winemaking. Though his family home is in Rioja Alavesa, Telmo’s influence can be felt in many regions of Spain. For more than 30 years, Telmo and his business partner, Pablo Eguzkiza, have been rediscovering historic vineyards and investing in infrastructure. The vineyards they have recovered in Valdeorras, Toro and Rueda are truly special places, capable of making extraordinary wines which we are delighted to bring to our portfolio. Telmo and Pablo were one of the first modern-day winemakers to arrive in Valdeorras and helped bring attention to the incredible terraced vineyards of Ladeiras do Xil. This part of Galicia is the domain of Godello and Mencia, both varieties are often planted in tiny vineyard plots on granitic soils. The Toro project, Gago, is where Telmo and Pablo have been working since the late 1990s. Here, they work in conjunction with a small number of local families focused on preserving old vineyards on the edge of extinction. The third region we represent is Rueda, where Telmo and Pablo pioneered characterful wines from the local Verdejo, helping to further the quality image of the region.
