Domaine Michel Noëllat
VOSNE-ROMANÉE, BURGUNDY
Sixth generation winemakers at the domaine, cousins Sébastien Noëllat and Sophie Noëllat-Sirugue are establishing a significant reputation for themselves. Sophie is married to Arnaud Sirugue from around the corner, and Ghislaine Barthod is their cousin, so there is plenty of pedigree. The estate is in Vosne-Romanée, next to Domaine Leroy, and covers 27 hectares of mainly old vines. Their top wine is Clos de Vougeot followed by Echezeaux. Premier Crus include Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots and Les Beaux Monts. Wine making is traditional, and grapes are 100% destemmed, though less oak is being used in favour of older and larger demimuids from selected coopers. Lighter toasts are also being employed. They started picking 12th September in 2023. The generous crop enabled them to select the best grapes, usually from older vines. Sophie was delighted with the quality of the wines.
