About the Producer
Region: Nuits-Saint-Georges
Founded in 1893, Delaunay is back in the ownership of fifth-generation Laurent Delaunay. The original négociant business, established by his great-great-grandfather Edouard, was one of the most prestigious names in Burgundy. They were the distributors of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and exclusive for La Romanée until the 1940s. Laurent purchased the business back from Jean Claude Boisset in 2017. This included the cellars next to their family home, Château de Charmont, in the Hautes-Côtes de Beaune. Laurent and wife Catherine have access to some of the best vineyards in the Côte d’Or. Each cuvée is treated individually allowing the wines to offer the purest expression of each terroir. Edouard Delaunay has produced another stunning 2020 vintage showing wonderful purity and complexity across the range.

2020 Bourgogne Aligoté Blanc

Aligoté is undergoing a revival thanks to passionate producers such as Delaunay. From a single parcel opposite the cellar, this has a gorgeous nose of lemons and fresh herbs. Showing lovely tension, mouthwatering citrus fruits are balanced by a zingy herbaceous note. Very good. Drink from 2022.

Bright and focused with an inviting bouquet of stone fruits and freshly baked bread, this shows great intensity and energy on the palate with smooth citrus notes leading to a mouthwatering finish. Very well done. Drink from 2023.

Produced from two parcels in Dessous and Dessus, this Les Charmes has an expressive bouquet with notes of lemon zest, orchard fruit and honeysuckle. The palate is harmonious and silky textured with a refreshing mineral note on the persistent finish while a hint of delicate spice adds complexity. Excellent. Drink from 2024.

Touching Les Charmes, this is a very classy Referts. A gleaming citrus bouquet leads to a vivacious palate with mouthwatering green apple and lemon flavours. Dynamic and fresh, with incredible mineral length, it will age brilliantly. Drink from 2025.

Exceptionally complex and intense, this opens with aromas of lemons, honeysuckle and delicate spices. Refreshing stone fruit flavours give way to a long finish with a refreshing white pepper note. All perfectly balanced and showing excellent ageing potential. Drink from 2028.
2020 Nuits-Saint-Georges Vieilles Vignes

From four parcels, it displays dark cassis aromas with a hint of liquorice. Medium to full bodied on the palate, this is a classically structured Nuits-Saint-Georges with firm integrated tannins. Ends on an appealing spicy note. Drink from 2024.

A bright bouquet of raspberries and strawberries leads to a silky textured palate with delicate, almost ethereal, cassis and rose petal notes. Graceful and effortless, with lovely length, it will be perfect in a few years. Drink from 2025.
2020 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Crots

Les Crots, most of which is taken up with the vineyards of Chȃteau-Gris, lies on a steep terraced vineyard. Soils here are very stony. A rather refined wine, it has a pretty bouquet of blueberries and redcurrants. On the palate, wild berry fruits are supported by fine, mineral tannins. Showed very well from barrel. Drink from 2024.
2020 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Les Millandes

A very elegant and intense wine from one of Morey’s best Premier Crus, it shows lovely clarity on the nose. Subtle strawberry and rose petal scents lead to a palate with concentrated sweet black fruits balanced by very fine tannins. A wine to lay down for a few years. Impressive. Drink from 2025.
2020 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Fuées

From a plot adjacent to Bonnes-Mares, this has a fragrant bouquet of cassis and strawberries with darker notes coming through in the glass. Floral red fruits on the palate are framed by fine tannins. Very subtle, elegant and pure. Drink from 2025.
2020 Clos-de-Vougeot Grand Cru

A magnificent wine with an expansive bouquet of raspberry and blueberry fruits, the palate reveals gorgeously sweet cassis and subtle spice notes. Powerful and velvety with seamless tannins, yet very refined with excellent definition, this could be cellared for a decade or more. Drink from 2027.
2020 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru

Extremely elegant and intense with terrific focus and energy. An enveloping nose of delicate cassis fruits leads to a very elegant and concentrated palate with fine, seamless tannins and beautifully pure flavours. Clearly a wine with plenty of potential. Drink from 2028.
2020 Echezeaux Grand Cru

This wine comes from Les Rouges du Bas, the highest of Echezeaux’s 11 different climats contributing to its more elegant style. Displaying perfumed strawberry scents, it has a very refreshing palate with fine tannins and bright cassis and rose petal notes. Shows wonderful intensity and fine mineral depth. Drink from 2028.
