Sixth generation winemakers at Domaine Michel Noëllat, cousins Sébastien Noëllat and Sophie Noëllat-Sirugue are beginning to establish a significant reputation for themselves. Sophie is married to Arnaud Sirugue from around the corner, and Ghislaine Barthod is their cousin, so there is plenty of wine making pedigree here. The
estate is in Vosne-Romanée, next to Domaine Leroy, and covers 27 hectares with vines averaging between 60 to 70 years old. Their top wine is Clos de Vouqeot followed by Echezeaux. Premier Crus include Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots and Les Beaux Monts. Wine making is traditional, and grapes are 100% destemmed, though less oak is being used in favour of older and larger demi-muids barrels. Quality has been steadily improving at this domaine. The 2020s show a freshness and elegance which sets them slightly above the 2019s in our view.

2020 Nuits-Saint-Georges

Produced from two plots, this attractive Nuits-Saint-Georges has bright strawberry and red berry aromas. On the palate, black cherry fruits and a hint of liquorice and spice are balanced by wellintegrated tannins and a refreshing cassis note. Drink from 2023.
2020 Chambolle-Musigny

Produced from 80-year-old vines, this appealing Chambolle has sweet cherry aromas and attractive strawberry fruit flavours. Nicely balanced with graceful tannins and a refreshing finish, it will be delicious for drinking in a few years. Drink from 2024.
2020 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Boudots

Sandy soils gives Les Boudots a certain refinement. A perfumed bouquet of red cherries and raspberries is followed by a well-balanced palate with supple red berry fruits and fine tannins. Some grilled spice notes on the finish add complexity. Drink from 2025.
2020 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots

On the same elevation as Romanée-Saint-Vivant, Les Suchots produces elegantly perfumed wines with fine textures. This has a lifted cherry and sweet cassis bouquet leading to a seductive palate with smooth tannins and a seasoning of spice. This will develop further complexity with cellaring. Drink from 2026.
2020 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts

A wine which shows lovely freshness and depth, it offers an expansive bouquet of sweet forest fruits and wild strawberries. Succulent and silky textured on the palate, this is packed full of juicy ripe fruit. It could be approached in a few years but has the energy for serious ageing. Drink from 2026.
2020 Echezeaux Grand Cru

Medium to full bodied with plenty of depth, crunchy raspberry fruits on the palate are framed by chewy though supple tannins. Darker fruits with a slightly savoury note and a hint of iron gradually emerge. Quite firm, yet refreshing, this should offer great ageing potential. Drink from 2028.
2020 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru

More elegant than the Echezeaux, this has a pure bouquet of redcurrants and cranberries. Long and precise on the palate, subtle red fruits are supported by graceful tannins and lovely freshness. Beautifully balanced with a long finish, it will reward ten years of cellaring. Drink from 2028.
