Region: Nuits-Saint-Georges
Domaine du Clos Frantin in Nuits-Saint-Georges is owned by the Bichot family. A beautiful 18th century chȃteau, the vines cover 7.3 hectares, over half of which are Premier and Grand Cru. The vineyards are overseen by Christophe Chauvel previously of Domaine Leflaive. Severe pruning and an absence of fertilisers and herbicides, replaced by compost and ploughing, produce the best possible fruit. Starting with the 2018 vintage, all the wines are certified organic. The approach is traditional but gravity has replaced mechanical operations in the cellar. As with all of Bichot’s properties, Domaine du Clos Frantin is run like a family domaine.

2020 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Malconsorts

Frantin possesses 1.75 hectares of Les Malconsorts which neighbours La Tâche. Succulent cassis and red plum aromas lead to an elegant and well-defined palate with dark fruit and a firm mineral edge. Offers plenty of ageing potential. Drink from 2025.
2020 Clos-de-Vougeot Grand Cru

Frantin’s Clos-de-Vougeot combines the fruit of a plot in the lower part of the Clos, with the structure of a site in the upper part. An intense nose of sweet berries leads to a bold fruited, yet finely tuned palate with an elegant mineral structure. Shows lots of freshness and direction. Cellar for at least five years. Drink from 2027.
