Isolabella della Croce

Isolabella della Croce

  • Italy
This family-run estate located in Loazzolo, Italy's smallest D.O.C in Asti's Alta Langa region, produces an award-winning range of biodynamically and organically farmed wines. The Isolabella della Croce family's ties with their land, which lies within a UNESCO protected area, stretch back over many generations. Their passion and pride for the terroir translates to the delicacy and elegance which distinguish their wines. The combination of the south-facing vineyards, enriching sea breezes, steep slopes and predominantly marne soil gives the grapes a unique concentrated quality.

From vines situated on the highest point of the vineyard, the Sauvignon Blanc evokes an intense bouquet of white flowers together with a distinct freshness and minerality. The Le Marne - an unusual blend of Barbera, Nebbiolo and Dolcetto - pays homage to the typical aromas of Piedmont. A firm tannic structure supports the harmonious palate balanced with ripe red fruits, herbaceous notes and a pleasant tanginess. The Barbera d`Asti `Serena` is made from 100% estate grown fruit, hand harvested and handled gently and very selectively at every stage. It is aged in 25hl French barrels for 12 months. Elsewhere on the estate, the climatic conditions of Loazzolo D.O.C meet the tricky requirements of making a brilliant Pinot Nero and lend the Bricco del Falco (100% Pinot) notable finesse. A good balance of tannin and acidity is complemented by notes of rose, violet, ripe cherry and strawberry. Finally, a sweet treat in the form of the Solìo di Valdiserre, a 100% Moscato Bianco made from grapes raisined on the vine, typical of Loazzolo and from a top quality vineyard in the D.O.C. After gentle pressing and a brief fermentation in stainless steel, the wine is matured for 24 months in barriques.
