Domaine Didier Dagueneau

  • France Loire
Didier Dagueneau the ‘Wild man of Pouilly' as he was affectionately known, tragically died in 2008 at the young age of 52. He was a legendary winemaker whose ideas about winemaking were ludicrously different to anything before in the Loire at this time. He halved his yields and began tilling his vineyards by horse instead of tractor! He paid scrupulous attention to detail at every stage, from vineyard management (biodynamic since 1993) to winemaking processes in the cellar. He redeemed the reputation of Pouilly-Fumé and became one of the greatest winemakers of his generation. His iconic estate is very highly regarded for making age-worthy Sauvignon Blanc from the Pouilly-Fumé appellation.

His name lives on in the fifth generation and the domaine is now wonderfully led by his son Louis-Benjamin. He worked alongside his father for many years and clearly absorbed his perfectionism and his methods and is driven to push the limits of quality in all the wines he makes. Some may say that Benjamin has surpassed the remarkable achievements of his father and is now iconic in his own right. His father would undoubtably be incredibly proud!
Benjamin's wines are exceptional. They are pure, intense and focused and represent everything that is wonderful about this domaine.
