Domaine de la Bonne Tonne
Domaine de la Bonne Tonne has been in the Grillet family for seven generations. They own spectacular plots with very old vines in `Les Charmes`, `Grand Cras` and the most celebrated of Morgon vineyards, `Côte du Py`. The decision to convert to organic farming came in 1999, when current owner Marcel Grillet concluded that chemicals were ruining the essence of his work. They reached full certification in 2006 and started with biodynamics in 2007. The additional labour required for organic farming also meant reducing the size of the vineyard from 13 to 7 hectares, but Marcel is more than happy with the results. In the cellar they abide by cool vinification with semi-carbonic maceration followed by barrel aging in old barrels. The resulting wines are stunning; juicy but with lovely finesse and elegance, and authentic expressions of their terroir. Ever a family enterprise, Marcel has been slowly handing over the reins to his daughter Anne-Laure, and her husband, Thomas Agatensi. Together they have relaunched these wines under beautiful, modern new labels, starting from the 2016 vintage.
