About the Wines

Tradition Brut 1ér Cru, Champagne Gaston Chiquet NV
Champagne, France

The Brut Tradition from Champagne Gaston Chiquet is a notch above many non-vintage Champagne, as all fruit is sourced from Premier Cru vineyards. Pinot Menuier dominates the blend (40%) supported by Chardonnay (35% and Pinot Noir (25%). Golden yellow in hue, with dried stone fruits on the nose. The smooth palate (on account of the Pinot Meunier) is balanced by vibrant notes of apricot and white peach, finishing with a delicate mousse.

Pinot Blanc Les Jardins, Domaine Ostertag 2018
Alsace, France

Full-bodied and structured Pinot Blanc, yet bone-dry and mouthwatering. The mouthfeel is rich, but clean thanks to its zesty minerality. This Pinot Blanc was aged for nine months sur lie in old 228-litre oak barrels in the style of Burgundy. Sourced from 20+-year-old vines growing in clay and silt, marl and sandstone.

Bourgogne Blanc, Domaine Thierry Pillot 2018
Burgundy, France

This is a cut above your average Bourgogne Blanc, a serious wine here. Thierry uses grapes from vineyards in both Puligny and Saint-Aubin for this cuvée and uses exceptionally low amounts of sulphur compared with his neighbours (including his father Paul). Resulting in a wonderful balance between easy-drinking and grippy raciness. Vibrant, structured, but with a core fruity approachability. Apple freshness to the fruit and a tidy finish.

Chablis, Domaine Bersan 2019
Chablis, France

This is an organic Chablis from Domaine Bersan, a family-run 22-hectare estate based in Saint-Bris-le-Vineux. On the nose, subtle notes of lemon and pink grapefruit lead to a crisp palate with an abundance of citrus fruit and green apple. The wine has excellent acidity and a beautiful saline finish.

Les Piliers de Maison Blanche, Montagne Saint-Émilion 2015
Bordeaux, France

Château Maison Blanche Les Piliers de Maison Blanche from Montagne-Saint-Emilion is a refined blend of Cabernet Franc and Merlot and is shows well just a few years of maturity. Aromas of cassis and dark berry fruits lead to a rounded palate with supple blackberry and plum flavours and a delicate spice note. Always delivers excellent value Bordeaux.

Bourgogne Rouge Les Pressonniers, Domaine Joseph Roty 2017
Burgundy, France

This Bourgogne Pressonier from Domaine Joseph Roty has a beautiful savoury element to the nose with a touch of wild forest fruit. Tannins are succulent and ripe, carried beautifully by a mineral mid-palate and finish.

Les Cassagnes de La Nerthe Rouge, Côtes-du-Rhône Villages, Château La Nerthe 2019
Rhône, France

Les Cassagnes Blanc is very fresh and aromatic on citrus notes (pomelo). On the palate, zesty touches predominate giving way to a vivid but lingering finish. Les Cassagnes Rouge is very expressive on the nose: the attack is round, dominated by Syrah (floral notes of violet and spices).

Optima, Anthonij Rupert Wyne 2016
Western Cape, South Africa

The Optima by Anthonij Rupert is a near equal blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot, with just a dash of Petit Verdot. Grapes are selected from the best sites of the L’Ormarins Estate and Rooderus Farm. Opulence is the keyword here, which carries through from colour to finish. An abundance of black fruit on the nose is followed by a silky, velvety palate of wild plums, bramble fruit and spice. The oak is well integrated and provides added layers of complexity. A harmonious wine and a pleasure to drink.

Crianza, Cillar de Silos 2018
Ribera del Duero, Spain

Expressive fresh red fruit. Round, juicy, fruit-driven palate. This is almost silky with perfectly wrapped up tannins. No need to wait to fully enjoy it.

Old Vine Zinfandel, Gnarly Head 2018
Lodi, USA

Made from grapes sourced from gnarled 35-80-year-old head-trained vines – some of the oldest in California. This has a core of jammy blackberry and black cherry flavors with hints of black pepper, balanced by complex oak toast. Pair braised short ribs, chicken enchiladas or dark chocolate.

Para Grand Tawny, Seppeltsfield NV
Barossa Valley, Australia

Named after the river that flows through the centre of the Barossa Valley, the Para Tawny was first released in 1953 and quickly became an Australian legend. Component wines are aged individually in small oak casks before a careful selection and blending process. It is then placed in a Solera system before release. Deep mahogany in colour with olive green tinges. A powerful bouquet displaying rich fruit, nutty vanillin oak and a hint of chocolate. Further complexity is derived from the aged rancio character and fine brandy spirit. Full-bodied, right and luscious, with concentrated lingering flavours. With ageing, the wine has become complex, smooth and mellow.

Côteaux du Layon, Domaine Cady 2018
Loire, France

Domaine Cady is based in St Aubin de Luigné the heart of Coteaux du Layon, on south-facing vineyards suitable for organic production. Fourth-generation Alex coaxes this beautiful sweet wine made from Chenin Blanc. The nose is complex with a range of fresh stone fruit aromas. Full-bodied and balanced on the palate with intense yellow, and zesty citrus fruits. Powerful, with a deep complex structure and a long fresh finish. Can be served as an aperitif, or as an accompaniment to foie gras, poultry or spicy food.
