Sancerre Le Château, Domaine Vincent Pinard 2018
From a parcel of 48 old year old vines in a rocky, chalky terroir around the family property in Bue this shows its Kimmeridgian limestone subsoil to perfection. The mineral tang on the palate is preceded by the joyous freshly hewn rock dust of the Petit Chemarin style on the nose. With a display of citrus mainly white and pink grapefruit – trying to get some elbow room amidst the minerals and compelling salinity this is one great Sauvignon Blanc. Actually it is hard to reduce the wine to a simple or single grape variety – this is a very serious wine that transcends the variety and the terroir has a pull on the wine right to the end of the thrilling long finish. Another electric wine from the Pinard brothers
