Gravel Hill Shiraz, Hartenberg Wine Estate 2009
Gravel Hill is a small plot on the Hartenberg estate where vines really have to fight to survive; their roots dig deep into the hot and dry clay soil in search of nourishment. The result is just a few bunches on each vine, concentrating varietal flavours and the influence of the terroir into a brooding, deep wine. Black fruit mingles in the glass with an edge of smoke and pepper n the nose, following through on the palate to clove-spiced, ripe fruit with structured tannins which shows the wine`s true aging potential.
