Region: Vosne-Romanée
Domaine Robert Sirugue is a family-run estate based in Vosne-Romanée. In 2000, Robert Sirugue passed the property on to his daughter and son, Marie-France and Jean-Louis, who represent the 4th generation of wine growers. The vineyards now occupy almost 12 hectares of sustainably grown vines including their jewel of Grands Echézeaux and also parcels in Les Petits Monts and Les Mombies in Chambolle-Musigny. Most of the bottles disappear into top restaurants around the world which is why the wines are still relatively unknown despite their undisputed quality. We tasted the 2019s with Marie-France. As with most growers, there was a significant reduction in yield, but the results are exceptional. The wines are intense, elegant and vivacious and will age brilliantly. Visited on Friday at the end of my trip, this was a fantastic way to conclude a very enjoyable week of tasting.

2019 Bourgogne Rouge

A spectacular Bourgogne rouge wine with a pure bouquet of cassis and blackberry fruits, showing wonderful clarity of bright red fruits on the palate. From three ‘climats’ in Vosne-Romanée, FlageyÉchezeaux and Gilly-lès-Cîteaux, this is a very lovely and elegant Bourgogne Rouge. Drink from 2022.
2019 Vosne-Romanée

A blend of three parcels which we tasted separately; Aux Réas (to the south), Les Chalandins (to the north), Les Barreaux (mid-slope). Combined this has an appealing bouquet of bright damson and redcurrant fruits, succulent dark cherry flavours and a nicely structured and refreshing palate with supple tannins. This is a wine with personality that shows great promise. Drink from 2023.
2019 Chambolle-Musigny Les Mombies

Les Mombies shows lovely freshness on the nose with crushed red berry and cranberry notes. On the palate, lifted forest fruits and a hint of redcurrant leaf are balanced by fine tannins. Smooth and gentle, this should be delicious for early drinking with the potential to age for much longer. Drink from 2025.
2019 Vosne-Romanée Vieilles Vignes

A blend of four parcels with old vines in FlageyEchézeaux located next to the Grands Crus of Clos de Vougeot to the north and the Echezeaux to the east. An extremely attractive and multi-layered wine, flavours range from raspberry and blackcurrant through to richer, darker blackberry fruits. Chalky mineral textures provide further depth. Intense, yet bright and fresh, there is great potential here. Drink from 2025.
2019 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Petit Monts

An excellent terroir just above Richebourg, Les Petit Monts has a very attractive bouquet of red cherries and crushed violets with scents of leather and spice. The palate is full of sweet summer berry fruits balanced by smooth tannins. An exotic black pepper note on the finish adds an extra nuance. Well-balanced and bursting with personality, this is a lovely wine. Drink from 2025.
2019 Grands Echézeaux Grand Cru
£595 per 3 bottle case in bond
From a tiny 0.12-hectare parcel, matured entirely in new oak with 100% whole bunches (though stalks in the middle of the bunches were removed by hand), this has an intense bouquet of violets, strawberries and raspberries with scents of sage and warm spices. The palate is medium bodied with vibrant red fruits leading towards a well-structured and persistent finish. Combines intensity and wonderful length, again with great personality – truly impressive. Drink from 2027.
